LIVE
I have not attended many live concerts in my lifetime (less than 2 hands' worth), and they were mostly western performers too ... and have always appreciated that the performers showcase their songs I adored, and of hearing and watching slightly different if not enhanced versions of said songs, and their stagemenship, which lifted them out of the "studio-recording-only-stigma of their musical life, IMHO.
If folks wanted a exact duplicate of what they hear/heard on their earphones during streaming, then perhaps a cover group lip-syncing their fav tracks could suffice, innit?
But no, I want to see them perform and present, to hear them sing and adlib, adding depth to their songs I already have heard thru my headphones. Sometimes good, sometime bad. At least we can see+hear for ourselves to form our own judgement and opinions, innit?
Sure, there are different groups/performers/singers who are good at certain aspects of their music-life, and live performances directly shows their craft and skill(s), and that a given, IMHO.
Different peeps have different ways to enjoy their time and experiences, but this is mine to have, and sadly I have not attended enough concerts to experiencing sharing that joy with like-minded friends, beyond strangers sitting / dancing all around me, or that one person that I'd asked to join me. Being a loner attending concerts, is not exactly something I look forward to too ... Heh.
The discourse I have been reading online for BIG BANG's COACHELLA stages, especially piqued my thoughts and this is a direct reaction to that.
I love it that folks termed it "BANGCHELLA", I loved the fanart that has come out of their performances, the level of adoration it would take for folks to take the time to interpret them - be it "true-devotion" or "artistic-intent", it matter not. Seeing constant NewJeans fanart, and even "Kpop Demon Hunters" is the flag of constant classic, versus the silence of other fandoms who disparage others beyond their own stanned names.
I am reminded of "LOONACON", and that it was all the fans that coined the event(s), and without fans, the performers are only facing and singing to themselves, innit? And the true fans give back, with words of encouragement, with fanart... while others shit on performers other than their own faves. The difference is alarmingly obvious tho ~ LOL
And the effort to defend their sides have been entertaining asides to your/my own everyday life, until they are not.
Now the Big Four labels have gotten together to wanna host their own music festival by 2027? Should have done it when they were known as "the Big Three", IMHO.
