"NDP Lo-Fi Hip Hop Beats" 2021
Our island country Singapore will be celebrating our National Day this coming August 9th, amidst a pandemic that has no doubt gripped our lives, and of everyone else's around the globe. And as the world's troubles become ours, I sometimes feel we forget "ourselves" and who we are, and even who we fight for, for ourselves, and "National Day Songs" are (to me) meant to unite us with at the very least a tune/song we could all sing along to, or a memory we could hold on to, and perhaps even a "musical legacy" for this young nation of ours...
THAT said, I am also all for remixed incarnations of "nation-led" songs (which I will delve into in separate posts, leading into August 9th) - having discovered the existence of the following via a newspaper report over the weekend (which means it failed to reach me via online sources) ... Regardless of source or intent, I admit I had gotten low-key emotional listening to this...
Featured above is titled "NDP Lo-Fi Hip Hop Beats" (via NDPeeps) where our National Day (Parade) Songs had been remixed into a "lo-fi" soundscape folks enjoy "LoFi Girl" might recognise - with this selection of beats to groove to and celebrate our collective national pride produced by yams, and you can as well stream on Apple Music + Spotify.
