"컴백홈(COME BACK HOME)" from Seotaiji and Boys, BTS, and Cypress Hill...?
With constant homage paid to "Seo Taiji and Boys" for the start of South Korea's "Kpop", I'd thought to delve into their discography to find out more - specifically the above featured MV for "COME BACK HOME" (from their 1995 album "Seo Taiji and Boys IV") - a track that was remade by BTS, to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of SEOTAIJI's debut in 2012.
"Based on his own experience, He truly spoke for adolescents who were oppressed by our society in this song through the cynical lyrics. As the social impact of this song, He literally made many runaway teens 'come back home'. Especially Taiji Boys' straightforward rapping, new and unique dancing and wandering characters in the MV described the meaning of this song, and the MV was awarded MTV Asian Viewer's Choice in 1996.". (Text from above MV's caption).
Hearing the top-featured track for the first time, it somewhat reminded me of a rap track, which I have since discovered to be sampled from U.S.-based Cypress Hill's 1993 hit "Insane in the Brain". Wikiedia stated:"...Cypress Hill member B-Real later explained they were aware of the controversy but "we were cool about shit like that."
Regardless, one cannot deny the historical significance this track had on the evolution of Kpop, does it? And yes, that indeed is Yang Hyun-suk apart of "The Boys"' line-up ~ who is to be the CEO of YG Entertainment...!
