가라 #에잇 Special thanks to SUGA 👑

South Korean artist (and my personal stan) IU premiered her latest (digital) single titled "Eight" (에잇) yesterday May 6th, to wonderous success and chart dominance (and a Twitter trending "#IUxSUGA"), with this particular song a collaboration with + being produced by + featuring SUGA of "BTS", a gentleman similar in age with IU herself, with the collaboration meant to mesh their synergies ... but first, the MV:

Lyrics by IU, SUGA
Composed by SUGA, IU, EL CAPITXN
Arranged by SUGA, EL CAPITXN, IU

This song is apart of IU's songs addressing her age, following 2017's "Palette" (when she turned 25), and 2015's "23" (both MV shown below). I found a link to this page (which in turn was based on this source), and reposted here without the ability to authenticate neither the contents or text, so read at your leisure, thanks.
"IU compares this song to her previous ones by saying, “if my previous songs were in the form of essays where I talked to the listeners directly, ‘eight’ is like a short novel where I confess my 28 using a fictional character ‘you’ and many metaphors.” She adds, “I’m not sure whether this is coming from my personal sentiment, the general atmosphere of the society that is struggling through hard times due to the disaster, or both, but I feel like my 28 will be remembered as a repeated feeling of helplessness and lethargy and the longing for the ‘orange island’ where we were not sad and were able to feel free.”"

And while I'd mention before my personal enjoyment+relishment of all-songs K-Pop was kept to the melody and musicality of what I hear - as I do not understand the Korean language to be able to understand and thus emote with the lyrics - upon reading multiple folks' commentary of what they think the lyrics might have symbolised / "meant", had me finding translated videos on youtube, and made that "connection" a stronger notion, which added an exceedingly emotional quality and depth to the MV, at least in my minds eye...

Folks have also opined online that the song is dedicated to IU's good friends, three of whom had committed suicide (at separate times), and are represented by the girl in the white dress, and the flying dragon, as seen in the animated "dream" sequence. What the lyrics might have meant to folks who had deciphered it (above-video), leads to a much stronger sadness to song and MV, but there has been no specific confirmation (as yet...), so I will not mention any specific names at this time... Instead I'll post THIS video by KPOP Junkee (6 minutes-mark), and after that a further (speculative) detailed breakdown of the MV from DKDKTV, which mentioned the inclusion of her third friend that had passed.

Perhaps there is more to what folks will confirm (nor will they deny, if that be the case), and the listeners will decide what they take away with the lyrics and MV, as most songs do to any individual, IMHO. I personally think they are all valid and quite possible too, but doubt if there ever will be a full detailed explanation beyond the official line, as this is much more personal than anyone would realise, IMHO.

"Admittance" might also invite a backlash of folks accusing her of making use of the dead, even though they were her good friends ... and at the same time, it is not just the dead, but of the surviving members of their families, who has to deal with the tragedy and anguish of their passing in the first place.

Whatever it may be, whatever the heartbreak everyone has to deal with, "life" still needs to move on, but it does not mean we need to forget. "Time" might heal all wounds, but it does not mean they can take away our memories, IMHO.

Here are the previous two MVs based on her birthdays, as mentioned earlier.
