tripleS(트리플에스) : LOVE&POP
tripleS' ASSEMBLE26 is upon us soon, this time with a theme(s); "LOVE&POP". At time of this feature, a whole series of pros has begun, including a teaser trailer (watch below), album description, and even a "Leader" has been chosen & assigned!
A overall teaser had been released, which tied in to past tripleS MVs (sub-units, both Korean & Japanese) with an over-arching narrative:
Initial thoughts was that LOVE & POP would split the girls into units "LOVE" and "POP" (memories of LOVElution and EVOLution no doubt flickr thru the darkness)- whether it be chosen via gravity who goes to whom, or internal choices, I cannot wait to see this gimmick manifest unto the next evolution is the KPOP-journey of tripleS.
According to triples.fandom.com however; this will be "divided into three parts: LOVE, & and POP, which will be released from June 1, 2026 until January 2027."
Intrigued to know iff all these were pre-planned when it all started with the fruition now at hand, or clever re-alignment of concepts now - either way I am enjoying the development thus far, and makes everything seem more fulfilling and fruitful, IMHO.
IN a way all the somewhat reminded me of LOONA with their interconnecting narrative, but this time with a more grounded universe weaved held together with the mystical symbolic flower(s), and I am so here for that.
As a middle-aged single cis-man, WTF would I know about "girlhood"? But this bleeds positivity and hope amidst the gloom and perceived gloom that perhaps lingered on since my adolescence the never actually went away.
Besides the running motif oft seen in LOONA MVs (fk I missed them), the excitement of seeing the connectivity shown in these tripleS videos, mirrored my excitement when I peeked in the Loonaverse, and perhaps helped quell a sliver of "unanswered intrigue" that I'd left behind, when LOONA went their separate ways and BBC imploded.
In a way, the recent "Gravity Novel 'The univerS'" seemed to be at the far end of the spectrum, while this current narrative is the middle ground in between the current "real-world" Signal scenarios, allowing everyone to "dream/imagine" a little bit more, without delving into string theory and the fantastic chaos of LOONAverse, which honestly grew into a 13th member of LOONA lol - and in many ways became the legacy of the group as much as the girls themselves, IMHO.
Thru a "Gravity" in-app voting round, the LEADER for Assemble26 has been chosen: S24 JiYeon (over S4 ChaeYeon).
LEADER PICKED:
The 24-member girl group confirmed ASSEMBLE26 pt.1, the Korean 'LOVE' installment of a trilogy under MODHAUS, carrying an empowering message about shining with your own light. Fans vote in a 'Leader Event Gravity' from May 2-3 between Kim Chaeyeon and Jiyeon, with the winner handling leader duties and getting center stage. A new treble clef-inspired logo and fan buzz over the ethereal visuals mark this new era after their 2024 OT24 unite.
ALBUM INTRODUCTION:
tripleS's pt.1 still contains music armed with narratives and messages.
These days are increasingly cynical about dreaming, and K-pop music is full of stimulating music rather than messages, but there should still be at least one team in K-pop talking about dreams.
The 24 girls tell stories of courage to those who live without losing their dreams in wounds and hardships through pt.1.
In addition, the music video for the title song will be held in four regions: Seoul, Tokyo, Bangkok, and Taipei, and deliver a message along with a song to the small s living in Asia.
This is the exact spirit remembered in LOONA during the [#]-era (circa 2020), with the girls of LOONA travelling to other countries, especially Thailand for their SO WHAT? Era MV and promos.
"Interestingly" for me, that [#] was when Lee Soon Man was the producer of the album, and Jaden Jeong had since left BlockBerry Creative by this era, so I am wondering if this particular era was created by Jaden (before he left), or if it was all BBC? Making this his "arc" to complete? The current countries they'll be at mirrors the tripleS members' own motherlands, so that is in-theme and perhaps even crucial in mending the recent SK vs SEAblings fiasco too, innit?
OF COURSE I am overthinking and analysing everything here! In my cover of the world I appreciate that this provides a semblance of depth to it all, beyond enjoying and relishing their songs that I know not the Korean lyrics to, as much as it stoked my imaginations with the LOONAverse, and am thankful it's not just turned-chasing EDM musik LOL
