BINKY Light Stick from NewJeans (뉴진스)

*The following was first featured on TOYSREVIL, but how could it NOT be on this blog? :)

What is a "Light Stick"?
"KPOP lightsticks are a unique sign that identifies different fandoms. Each KPOP group has a different stylized lightstick and everyone from new fans to highly interactive fans try to get one.". (thesoulofseoul.net).

Essentially battery operated literal "light sticks" which would feature a shaped top, illuminated from within, on top of a handle which housed the batteries (meant to operate the light-bulbs in the top). In many a instance, a KPOP soloist or group would have their "official light stick", where fans would purchase, meant to support their faves, and as collectibles, also to be used during in-person concerts from their favs.

In the past I have featured BLACKPINK's lightstick (also a collabo with Takashi Murakami), and have in the past desired to purchase light sticks from LOONA and more recently ARTMS, and more recently XG's spaceship-shaped lightstick has gotten me itchy-fingered (!), but because I am a cheap-a$$ and want to pay for "collectible toys" instead, but....

Here is a handy "User Guide" for KPOP girl group NewJeans (debuted in Japan over the weekend), and their lightstick named "The Binky Bong" (Yes, they are named, alike naming their own fandom).

Honestly upon first look, it looked deceptively simple but decently adorable, with it's two beady-black "eyes", very much like certain genres of "designer / art toys", don't you think? ""BINKY" is a Korean word that describes the excited jumps of a rabbit. It also resembles a bunny's head." And NewJeans' fandom are named "Bunnies" (토끼, tokki, rabbit), and is a prevalent iconology in their presentation, which includes album graphics and merch.

But with the newest collaboration with Takashi Murakami (resulting in these desirably delish PLUSH and more), came more themed stickers to help with "customising" fans' light sticks, and the result makes the said-"simple" what-would-be a "platform toy" light stick, much more fun for fans to collect and customise, IMHO!

Here are some samples of fans' work swiped off the www:

The following are more "customised" light-stick, reminding me of the effort folks might put into platform toys, methinks!

What you can do with your lightstick, however old you may be... :)
