National Day Parade/NDP Songs of Singapore (1984-1999)

This is the first blog-feature (in a series of 3), that aims to feature "National Day Parade" AKA "NDP" Songs of Singapore, with a song released for every year we celebrate Singapore's "National Day" (on August 9th), to be played during a literal Parade specifically celebrating Singapore's. National Day, along with an address by the Prime Minister of Singapore, and fireworks celebrations.

There is a description on Wiki referring to "Singaporean patriotic music" - whereby "Singaporean patriotic music is a part of the culture and history of Singapore especially since its independence as a sovereign country in 1965, and has served to encourage feelings of honour for the country's forefathers and for national unity."

Such songs consists of both traditional folk songs that have special meaning to Singaporeans, as well as modern songs composed specifically for national celebrations, with these beoing the focus I aim to share thru these serial features, in the days leading up to August 9th.

This is the first time I am attempting this on this blog, and it felt like a fun idea at the time LOL

Featured in today's feature are gazette songs from 1984 to 1999 - based on NDPeeps YouTube archives, TheSmartLocal and musicaltouch.sg, and of course YouTube-"Search" :)

DISCLAIMER: Not every credit is available, and I'll attempt to add them on whenever I come across or if I've headsup on them, thanks! Meanwhile, ENJOY!

And I'll end this current line-up perfectly with the one and only sole "National Day Song" I had worked on on the entire history - more specifically for the production of the music video, under the direction of Tsui Hark (Yes, THAT "Tsui Hark" from Hong Kong) - where I was the (Singapore) Art Director for the production shoot. Nothing could have prepared me for the gruelling pace, but for the opportunity to draw up storyboards sitting with the legend, quite literal seconds to the moment he had to walk out of the door to a press conference waiting for him right outside...!

I quite frankly still cringe when I see my own hand-writing LOL
