LOONA's STAGE for ROUND 1 & ROUND 2 of #Queendom2

So we managed to see LOONA perform for "Round 1" in Episode 2 of QUEENDOM 2, but their stage was not eligible for Peer Assessment, Live Studio Audience Voting, and Global Audience Voting, leaving them in the last "6th place" for Round 1. And if you remember the rules stated in Ep1, when a team is in 2 consecutive "6th places", they will be eliminated and not return. LOONA is already DOWN ONE right off the bat, so that sucks.

UPDATED: I've gone and filmed a "sketch" video where I rambled at length about the stage seen in LOONA's Round 1 performance (vew below) - which you can skip and scroll down for the typed incarnation of, cheers :)

Regardless, as mentioned in their "Round 1" performance, the vote for their YouTube uploaded video currently streamable HERE (calculations cut off Monday April 11th (at 11:59pm KST) - whereby this all will go into the final round calculations.

I have taken a closer look into LOONA's performance of "PTT", which includes full and individual fancams and more, cheers. For THIS specific blogpost, I want to take a closer look at the STAGE DESIGN - for both Episode One, and for LOONA's stages.

One specific thing I noticed, as the stage in which LOONA performed, was different than the suped-up version we have been seeing for the other five performances in the first episode - complete with moving stages with video screens.

Understandable, as sheer logistics and no doubt financial considerations come into play.

I truly do not know how it works in South Korea, but in Singapore, once the recording studio is booked on a schedule for filming, everything else moves in to fit the schedule. From stage foundation rentals and set-up, to lighting rigs, to stage design set up. This might also include audience seating and general spacial management dedicated to the booked schedule.

Once the recording is done (within the set schedule), the entire stage set is dismantled, to a bare studio, while another set for another show moves in and is set up. I remembered seeing a quick glance at the studio set-up but cannot seem to find it (more likely in the since unwatchable "Exclusive Preview"). Everything is on a finite timetable and clock.

Because of the usage of the recording studio - unless the program is able to book the entire length of schedule of the show - this move-in and set-up, then strike-and-move-out scenario is a constant.

I designed television variety sets for a local broadcaster both as a in-house designer, and subsequent freelancer for a total of (nearly) 6 years here in SG (nearly 2 decades ago tho lol), so that's where my reference is from. But like I said, if the program has booked the studio for the entirety of the program, then inevitably that might change.

Seen above are ALL MAIN STAGE for ROUND 1 seen in Ep1 and Ep2 - from Kep1er, Brave Girls, WJSN, VIVIZ and HYOLYN - all except LOONA's.

From seeing the massive stage in Episode 1 and 2 (essentially "ROUND 1" performances), excluding the "Opening Show" stages - LOONA's stage performance in ROUND 1 is based off the stage design which we will be seeing in ROUND TWO - which has since been revealed by the end of Episode to be "Cover Songs" / "Song Switch Round".

From the above screengrabs, we could see LOONA's performance was based on a singular level stage, but as well utilized the side (where Yves did her FAN sequence), and and well the "Bridge Stage" (for Kim Lip and HaSeul's sequence). One benefit they had was the usage of the side vdeo walls, in addition to the center stage, which of course could not achieve the height and "grandeur" of the Queendom 2 Stage seen in the first episode.

That said, all situations and limitations considered, their Round 1 Stage was spectacular, and kudos to the designers for planning out this performance, including choreo and prop-play, and truly hope Mnet will feature a "Queen's Land" dedicated featurette for behind-the-scenes of LOONA's performance, because there is so much more than meets HeeJin's scarred eye!

We had a closer glimpse at LOONA's ROUND TWO Stage at the end of Ep.2., with th image direct below screen grabbed from ROUND 1 STAGE, where you'll see the same stage set-up.

As a fan of LOONA, of course I feel indignant that our girls do not have the same stage to showcase their skills and talents (*And am truly curious how they would've tackled the essentially 3 level stages), but that's the way of practicality of studio space, as far as I am concerned, and I remind myself to "move forward", and cannot wait to see their full performance in Round Two, where they'll exchange songs with HYOLYN...! But please don't string us along until they appear "only in Ep4" FFS! LOL
