MAMAMOO's Performances for QUEENDOM (2019)

With the announcement of the line-up for "QUEENDOM 2" (First episode premiering March 31, 2022), I'd thought to delve into the first incarnation of the survival-styled performance/reality program, with this feature showcasing the final crowned winners of Queendom: "MAMAMOO"!

And while the format might have (or might not have) changed since, especially with seeing how KINGDOM: LEGENDARY WARS have evolved, most of my memories of the series were legendary performances in Queendom - but of course that's just me :)

Scroll thru to see what happened during MAMAMOO's performances (Breakdowns courtesy of mamamoo.fandom.com), which I have watrched through (even before this post), and had gotten pretty emotional too! Throughly impressed by their performances, which did not include too much props or sets (very much different than Kingdom), but relied on their talent and showmanship. Exceptional.

And I am personally intrigued to see how the girls (in Queendom 2) perform beyond their regular wheelhouse - something this program allowed them to, methinks! But first, MAMAMOO's OPening Performance...!

1st Preliminary Performances: "Representative Hit Song"
WHAT: The 6 acts each perform one of their representative hit songs, that is rearranged and different from their usual stages of the song.

Representative Hit Song: "Décalcomanie".
Seen directly above is the MV for the track, first released in 2016...!
Ranking: 2nd place

2nd Preliminary Performances: "Cover Song"
WHAT: The 6 acts each perform a song from a fellow Queendom act, and is rearranged into a different style.

Cover Song: "Good Luck" (Original artists: AOA - check out MV above, released in 2016)
Ranking: 2nd place

3rd Preliminary Performances: "Unit Performances"
This was a 2-parter round.

Part 1: Unit Round (5,000 points):
The 6 acts will each send a main vocal and a main dancer, to form vocal units and 1 performance unit. The vocal units will compete to gain points as a unit, while the performance unit will perform together but will compete for their respective groups' points.

Part 2: Fan-dora's Box (10,000 points):
The 6 acts will each perform a song suggested by the audience.

Vocal Unit Round: Hwasa and Kei (from Lovelyz)
Song: "Wish You Were Gay" (Originally performed by Billie Eilish)
Ranking: 1st place

Performance Unit Round: Moonbyul
Song: "Power (Little Mix)"
Ranking: 2nd place
Overall ranking: 1st place

Fan-dora's Box: "I Miss You" by Mamamoo
Ranking: 3rd place
Final Ranking: 2nd place

Featured below is a compilation of all performances. One main aspect of QUEENDOM I remembered (while I did not watch through all episodes), was not the "battles", but of each groups being able to perform beyond their own set repertoire, but a chance to interact and witness each other's performances.

The naive part of my KPOP-loving brain of course hopes everyone can get along and support each other! And whatever "evil editing" and even fandom-wars (which has already begun in socials, alas) might erupt, the girls' fans know their biases, and I certainly hope are able to protect and understand their own groups (against "evil editing" at least, right?), and support their endeavours.

It wold really suck if I am the only person thinking this, innit? Truth be told, my KPOP experience had always been (predominantly) "solitary", the only opportunity to ramble on in this blog to myself LOL

Doesn't stop me from enjoying this tho!

4th Preliminary Performances: "Finale Comeback Stages"
WHAT: The 6 acts will each perform a newly produced song live on the final episode.

Song: "Destiny (우린 결국 다시 만날 운명이었지)"
Ranking: 1st place
Final Ranking: 1st place

Behind-the-scenes for "Destiny (우린 결국 다시 만날 운명이었지)", with alas no official English subtitles.
