My Introduction to T-POP



Honestly, this blogpost started as a compilation of girl groups and boy groups sounding/performing like "KPOP", but are not ... and led to me delving slightly deeper into "T-POP" ("Thai Pop"), which started with MXFRUIT (which Im getting a bit obsessed with, to be honest), and the following folks - which by no means is a definitive-list, and I am sure I am just scratching the tip of the iceberg here, but thanks to YT-Recommends I have discovered new sounds to enjoy too!





"QRRA (คาร์ร่า)", formerly known as LYRA (ไลร่า) and VYRA (ไวร่า), is a 5-member sub-group of BNK48 (short for "Bangkok48"). Originally a 6-member group, they debuted on October 7, 2020 with the digital single "Lyra". "Miracle" is their latest single released in 2023, with a slightly different member line-up. "4EVE" (Thai: โฟร์อีฟ; Japanese: フォーイブ; Korean: 포이브) is a seven-member girl group under XOXO Entertainment. Formed through the survival show Girl Group Star, they debuted on December 23, 2020 with the digital single "Oohlala!". Their group name stands for 'forever'. Find out more on tpop.fandom.com.

"The Test of Time Project ("Want More Shawty")" was released "November 23, 2023" from RS Music Thailand.

"เปิดดิ (D-Day)" was released November 16th, 2023, performed by All BRIQ (by RS MUSIC, exclusively distributed by Universal Music (Thailand) Ltd.). My attempt at interpreting the Google Translation, the track is performed by 23 new generation artists from BRIQ Entertainment (บริก เอนเตอร์เทนเม้นต์ / a Thai record label and entertainment agency under RS Music), which reminded me of "SMTOWN", but Thai version FTW.

"THI-O & TUTOR" (ไทโอ & ติวเตอร์) is a male duo under 2FLOW Entertainment. Formed through the survival show "The Two", they debuted on March 23, 2023 with the digital single "Move On". Find out more out the duo on tpop.fandom.com. Digital single "Call Center" was released in October 5th, 2023.

"Pretzelle" is a Thai pop girl group formed in 2020, consisting of 4 members: Inc, Ice, Aumaim, and Grace. Their first mini-album Pretzelle Day was released on May 28, 2020, alongside the music video for the debut single "Never Give Up". Find out more about them on Wikipedia. "VIIS" (วิส) is a 5-member girl group under GNEST. Consisting members Atom, Cheers, Plaifah, Tara and Sonya, they made their debut on September 6, 2023 with the digital single "Barbie (Oops! Oops!)". "ร้ายก็ได้ (Don't Mind)" was their 2nd Digital single, released on October 25, 2023. I ave both their MVs to share here, cheers!
